HUSKIES ON THE MOVE IWALK to school event

The month of October is Walk or Wheel to school month. Join other schools across the globe in choosing active modes of transportation to get to school for one day, several days or every day this month. We are renaming the month at Mapleview WALKTOBER to celebrate being healthy and active before we start our day at school. We will be kicking off the event with Walk or Bike to School day on Wednesday, October, 2. We will have music and giveaways and maybe even some special guests joining us outdoors to celebrate the walkers and the wheelers! Even if you live too far to walk to school, you can still participate in #IWALK Month with Drive to 5. Park a block away from school and walk the last 5 minutes!

Students will participate in classroom activities to support safe walking and riding to school.

What is the best incentive of all for walking to school? YOUR HEALTH and WELL BEING! With the added bonus of cleaner air, less traffic congestion, increased safety and building community connections!

HUSKIES ARE ON THE MOVE! LET’S GOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Supervision on the yard starts at 9:00 am- 9:15 am so we will see you close to 9:00 am Wednesday morning!

We will also be celebrating walking home on the school departure between 3:35-3:45 pm.

The data we collected in the spring is in and less than half of our students walk to school on a regular basis. We want this to improve by creating safer conditions with less traffic.  We would like to fall into action with WALKTOBER and increase our participation in daily walk/wheel to school by 25%!

This week we will feature daily announcements, safety tips and resources for the classrooms, and be out providing incentives for those who choose active modes of transportation.

HUSKIES ARE ON THE MOVE to increase student active transportation in our school community!
